Titles

These videos show a step-by-step tutorial of how to use Adobe Premiere CS3 software. We are using it to guide us to produce the best titles possible. Tom (my partner) is focussing on this element of the production as he is good at editing. However, we are both coming up with ideas and different fonts to use, to create a bigger effect upon the audience.

Sony Vagas:

Cinematic 4d ;is a very professional but easy way of creating different types of 3d Text and you can also create 4d movement pieces with shapes words by capturing frames and singles movement and putting a large amount of frames together to create a smooth movement and  above i have put the simplest way of creating 3d text .

Adobe after effects ; 
This is were the software get more complicated which is why i have put a few videos links from youtube to give you a chance to try different way of putting the 3d Text either into a video or a photo .
depending on how you want your tittles in your opening scene to the video depends which video you choose to try out and use to get the best look .

Sony vagas;
Is just another software which can give you a great effect in video use but it is a lot harder to use but i have placed a easy clip to follow if you or i decide to use this in editing my tittles in the opening sequence .

Overall i think that Adobe after effects would be the easiest once to use because of the wide range of different tutorials which is on to offer and this software is also the easiest one to get hands on at college or home and will give me a better chance on trying out the software to get better and therefore creating a better professional effect for the views .

This information was found by Tom, it shows the importance and difference between different text types to use for the title sequence. He has researched into three different types of software for us to use on the opening sequence. The different softwares have different: tutorials, operations, and capabilities, which we will have to take into account when producing the title sequence. 

We also had ideas on blending the titles into the scene, so we will have to choose the correct font and size to ensure fluidity. This is because the titles are significant in recognising the genre, and can give an insight (foreshadow events) for viewers.
This information shows us working together in order to keep up-to-date. Sharing ideas and themes shows great time keeping and shows us using our initiative to share information researched. This is all in order to create the best film opening possible.

This is title links to the genre really clearly. The modern font, and green beam behind 'RESURRECTION' implies an dehumanising approach, suggesting the their is alien activity. Also the background of the alien resurrecting reinforces this. The texture seems very slimy showing the rebirth of aliens. This is a stereotypical way of representing aliens. This adds verisimilitude, enhancing what the audience decode to the audience. It portrays the aliens in being very similar to humans, making it more
imaginable for the audience.

These codes and conventions are stereotypical for this genre, in including aliens. But the slimy texture adds to the gruesomeness making the audience squirm at the sight. The idea of making a science fiction film is to greatly intrigue the audience in something new and non existent in our personnel lives.



These to shots interested me, as it shows space and the universe. These scenes are also stereotypical conventions of this genre. The huge space craft and glistening stars portray life in space, which is unexplored. Meaning produces can create any species of their imagination. In some sci-fi films, they make relationships between human and non-human to make an interesting storyline- rather than the same aliens taking over the world theme.

I will take these two shots into consideration when producing my 2 minute film opening as space is a common theme. Also these shots were after the title sequence in their openings. This will also be taken into consideration. The cross-cut from the title sequence to the location seems to be very effective, and opens up the narrative very well. The sound also helps set the scene, in this opening scene, a rather tense atmosphere was used, this creates suspicion to the audience hence intriguing them to watch further.

This is the first title, showing their main production company. This is usual in all films. The metal, modern font, symbolises a robotic natured film. This helps set the tone, and scene. However, the smoothness and calmness of the camera tracking shots connoted to a peaceful theme. However, the quiet drone in the background implies something dramatic may happen.This technique decodes very effectively to the audience as it plays with their conceptions of the narrative.

I may use this technique in my film opening because it adds a greater effect to the audience.

This opening scene is much different to the other two. This sets a rather strange, yet imaginative way of linking the titles with the narrative. It uses an underwater effect, with metal and bubbles.
I was rather impressed with the title of the film when the lighting changed, the red connoting danger, which foreshadows later in the scene.
The soundtrack volume increased dramatically when it appeared on screen (synchronous sound). This again reinforces the dramatic effect encoded by the producers.

This screen shot, shows the way in which the title leaves the film. It is very creative, as it blends the narrative with the titles. The text forms into bubbles and leaves the shot. I may adopt this idea, as it allows more fluidity to the film, and is appealing to the eye, increasing the audiences opinions views on the film.

The final shot which interested me was the cross cut to the protagonist. The change from the title sequence to the narrative shocks the audience. It forces the audience to think: 

If he was dreaming?                                             Whats the robot going to do next? 

How can he stop the robot?

These questions make the audience watch more, to find the answers out. This is the making of a good film, so if I could encode questions for the audience it would improve it dramatically. The lighting used adds to the tense, secretive atmosphere by a shadow covering the protagonists face. 

This shot is similar to 'Alien- Resurrection' as it resembles the birth/construction of a new life form. The opening shot shows the multiplying of cells, in the build up of the new species. This is a different approach to a sci-fi film as this could link to a new infection and new species. This makes the opening more appealing to the audience as it intrigues them to watch further to see the storyline. I may consider this effect in my opening.

This is again very different style to the other openings. It misleads the audience as it is a magnified image of an ice cube, but the patterns suggests diamonds/metal which connotes to wealth. This foreshadows the next scene as there is a board meeting following this title sequence.The titles used in this clip also resemble the sci-fi genre as it is very straight, plain, and modern looking.

I may think of looking at interesting ideas similar to this for my 2 minute film clip.

All of these ideas will be taken into account when producing my 2 minute film opening. These different openings has expanded my ideas on my approach on how to create the opening.

Researching Film Openings

Analysing the: Titles, Sound, and Camerawork for Sweeney Todd- The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and I, Robot

Sweeney Todd- The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

This opening scene has many titles, and uses a wide range of camera shots. The sound used is also used to create a bigger affect to the audience. The titles were ordered from most important Production companies, and famous actors in the film. Then went to the less important people used to film the clip- casting, music supervisor... etc. Then ends with the most important people in creating the film, producer, director... etc. I also noticed that they only appeared on screen for no longer than 4 seconds.

This opening scene is very different to Sweeney Todd, mainly because they are a different genre, but this opening doesn't use as many titles. This shows that not all films show their credits at the start. I, Robot only state the main production companies. It again contrasts the first one film by the length of the titles screen time, in lasting 6 seconds. This proves their importance in this film being successful. Also, their is many camera shots used in the clip, and the editing changing from slow pace to fast paced decodes to the audience in them feeling tense. This again differs to the first opening scene by them building the pace throughout, rather than quick changes. These both have different effect on the audience, which I would think about for my film opening.

I shall use these ideas of the micro elements in these to clips. Also I will have to take into consideration the title screen time, and the pace of the clip to ensure that my clip clearly represents the genre chosen.

I find that the title sequences in James Bond are contructed very effectively, and looks extremly impressive. I may use this to impire some of the editing techniques i may use in my opening.  Maurice Binder is responsible for the artistic designs, and magnifgicant editing of the James Bond title sequences.
